# What Is SmartHeat® and How Does It Work?

It's J.W. Speaker's automatic heated lens system. It turns on by itself, clears the ice by itself, and turns off by itself. You just drive.

Snow and ice don't just look bad on your headlights — they block light output, reduce how far you can see, and make it harder for other drivers to see you. In serious winter conditions, that's a genuine safety risk.

### 🔌 It Turns On By Itself
The moment you start your vehicle — or whenever the built-in sensor detects the temperature dropping below a set point — SmartHeat® activates automatically. You don't touch a thing.
### 🌡️ It Reads the Temperature Continuously
A sensor inside the light monitors temperature in real time and adjusts accordingly:

> ⚠️ **Temperature thresholds are not based on outside air temperature.** Because sensor placement varies between products, the exact point at which SmartHeat® kicks in and shuts off differs by model. This is by design — each product is calibrated for its specific application. Don't worry if it seems to activate or deactivate at a different point than you expect.

**Do I need to do anything to activate it?** Nothing at all. SmartHeat® activates and deactivates automatically based on temperature. There are no switches or app controls needed.
**Will it drain my battery?** SmartHeat® is energy efficient and only runs when conditions require it. Full current draw specs are listed on each product's specification sheet at jwspeaker.com.
**Does it work on tail lights and work lights too?** Yes — SmartHeat® is available across headlights, tail lights, and work lights. Not just headlights.
