What Is SmartHeat® and How Does It Work?
Automatic, Sensor-Driven Lens Heating — No Driver Action Required
If you've ever pulled out of the driveway in a snowstorm only to realize your headlights are caked in ice — or worse, realized halfway down the road that your visibility has dropped to almost nothing — SmartHeat® was built for you.
It's J.W. Speaker's automatic heated lens system. It turns on by itself, clears the ice by itself, and turns off by itself. You just drive.
The Problem It Solves
Snow and ice don't just look bad on your headlights — they block light output, reduce how far you can see, and make it harder for other drivers to see you. In serious winter conditions, that's a genuine safety risk.
Traditional heated lights exist, but most are slow and require manual activation. SmartHeat® is different.
How It Works
🔌 It Turns On By Itself
The moment you start your vehicle — or whenever the built-in sensor detects the temperature dropping below a set point — SmartHeat® activates automatically. You don't touch a thing.
🌡️ It Reads the Temperature Continuously
A sensor inside the light monitors temperature in real time and adjusts accordingly:
| Condition | What SmartHeat® Does |
|---|---|
| Cold — below low threshold | Heating grid stays active, de-icing the lens |
| Warming up — above high threshold | Heating grid shuts off automatically |
| Sustained extreme cold | Heating grid stays on continuously to prevent re-icing |
❄️ → ☀️ Job Done — It Shuts Off
Once the lens is clear and the light has warmed to the right temperature, the system switches itself off. No wasted energy, no overheating, no input from you.
Why SmartHeat® Stands Out
💡 SmartHeat® de-ices lenses up to twice as fast as competing heated lighting products.
That speed difference matters when you're on the road and need full visibility immediately — not five minutes from now.
| Feature | SmartHeat® |
|---|---|
| Activation | Fully automatic — zero driver input |
| De-icing speed | Up to 2× faster than competitors |
| Technology | Thermally conductive grid built into the lens |
| Overheating protection | ✅ Auto shutoff when warm enough |
| Available on | Headlights, tail lights, and work lights |
One Thing to Know
⚠️ Temperature thresholds are not based on outside air temperature. Because sensor placement varies between products, the exact point at which SmartHeat® kicks in and shuts off differs by model. This is by design — each product is calibrated for its specific application. Don't worry if it seems to activate or deactivate at a different point than you expect.
Who Is It For?
SmartHeat® is built for anyone who drives in serious winter conditions:
- 🚛 Truck and fleet drivers who can't afford visibility loss on long hauls
- 🚒 Emergency responders who need full visibility regardless of weather
- 🏔️ Off-road enthusiasts who head out in all conditions
- 🚗 Everyday drivers in cold climates who are tired of manually dealing with iced headlights
