Troubleshooting Your J.W. Speaker Light
Bench Test and Swap Test Before Returning — Most Issues Are Vehicle-Side
Before returning your light or initiating a warranty claim, please work through the steps below. Many returned lights are found to be functioning correctly — the issue is often in the vehicle's wiring or electrical system, not the lamp itself. Troubleshooting first saves you time and gets you back on the road faster.
Problem 1 — Light Will Not Turn On
Run these two tests in order before contacting your dealer.
Test 1 — Bench Test
Remove the lamp from the vehicle and connect it directly to a power supply of the correct voltage.
| Result | What It Means |
|---|---|
| ✅ Light works on the bench | The lamp is fine — the issue is in your vehicle's wiring or circuit |
| ❌ Light does not work on the bench | The lamp may be faulty — proceed to warranty |
Test 2 — Swap Test
If you have another lamp of the same type installed on the vehicle, swap their positions.
| Result | What It Means |
|---|---|
| ✅ Problem follows the lamp to the new position | The lamp is likely faulty |
| ❌ Problem stays in the original position | The issue is in the vehicle's circuit, not the lamp |
Problem 2 — Light Is Flickering
Flickering is almost always caused by a voltage issue — not a defective lamp.
Step 1 — Check Input Voltage
Use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the headlight connector while the light is operating.
⚠️ LEDs will flicker if voltage drops more than 1–2V below the lamp's stated minimum operating voltage. If your reading is low, the issue is in your vehicle's electrical system.
Step 2 — Perform the Swap Test
Follow the same Swap Test described above to confirm whether the problem follows the lamp or stays in the circuit.
🚙 Jeep JK Owners — Read This First
Flickering on Jeep Wrangler JK models is a known issue caused by the vehicle's PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) circuitry — not a faulty headlight.
Before assuming your light is defective:
- Confirm you have the correct J.W. Speaker lights for your specific JK model year
- Check whether an anti-flicker harness is required for your application
- J.W. Speaker J-Series headlights (8700 J2, EVO J3) have integrated anti-flicker technology and do not require an external harness

Problem 3 — Moisture Inside the Light
Not all moisture is a warranty issue. It is important to identify which type you are dealing with before contacting your dealer.
| Condensation | Water Ingress | |
|---|---|---|
| Looks like | Light fogging or fine mist | Pooling water or large droplets |
| Clears after a few hours? | ✅ Yes | ❌ No |
| Action required | None — this is normal | Contact your authorized dealer |
| Warrantable? | ❌ No | ✅ Yes* |
*Provided the housing has not been opened or the ingress is not the result of abuse or misuse.

Still Not Resolved? — How to Start a Warranty Claim
If you have worked through the steps above and the lamp is confirmed faulty, here is what to do next.
- Gather your documentation — the lamp, your original receipt, and any troubleshooting notes or photos
- Visit your authorized dealer — take everything to the dealer where you purchased the light
- Your dealer will process the claim on your behalf with J.W. Speaker
⚠️ Important: Warranty claims must go through the authorized dealer where the product was purchased. J.W. Speaker does not process warranty claims directly, and does not warrant any products purchased on Amazon, eBay, or third-party marketplaces.
